Nine people were injured, two critically, after a stolen vehicle collided with a Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) bus in North York early Monday, Toronto police report.

The crash occurred shortly before 2 a.m. near Bathurst Street and Wilson Avenue. Duty Inspector Brian Maslowski revealed that a black SUV and a white BMW were speeding along Wilson Avenue when the incident unfolded.

While the black SUV successfully cleared the intersection at Bathurst Street, the BMW failed to do so and struck the driver’s side of a southbound TTC bus. The impact caused the bus to spin and face northbound.

Police arriving at the scene found the BMW engulfed in flames. Officers rescued two occupants from the vehicle and extinguished the fire, while firefighters extricated two additional passengers. Two individuals from the BMW were rushed to a trauma center with life-threatening injuries.

The TTC bus driver and four passengers sustained minor injuries, including a woman who was ejected from the bus.

The black SUV fled the scene, and police are actively searching for the vehicle and its driver.

Authorities are appealing to anyone in the area during the collision to share dashcam footage or other information with investigators.
