A car driver and passenger were injured in a collision involving a transport truck on Highway 401 in Clarington early Sunday morning.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reported that the crash occurred around 3:25 a.m. near Courtice Road. Preliminary investigations suggest the transport truck was slowing in the right lane when a car rear-ended it, losing control upon impact.
The car’s driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local trauma centre, while the passenger suffered critical injuries and was transported to the hospital for urgent care, according to OPP Const. Taylor Konkle.
Following the incident, Highway 401 remains closed at Courtice Road as police conduct their investigation.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and plan alternate routes while authorities work to determine the cause of the collision.
